Design reality check

This week we had the Galway designer Greg Osbourne take our class and tell us all about his design career and the path he took to get his own design firm 'We Can Imagine'.

He did not have a straight forward path to get to where he is now. He had many doubts on his career and even took another course to gain more knowledge and advance his skills.

He shared his ideologies and tips for us to use as a designer. The biggest one i took away and that has stuck to my brain is to know your worth as a designer, don't do anything for free, your hard work and efforts should not be overlooked and the craftmanship should be appreciated. His idea is that if you are compensated for your skills you will be more motivated to become better and put in harder work.

He did a workshop with us where we designed a user experience chart for a medical center. This workshop had us really design around our empathy for others and with the care of people in mind and i thought it was a really wholesome and unique project to do.
