Trick of the eye

Our day started off with an introduction to the world of optical illusions and how you can trick the eye with simple changes in mediums and depth to create a unique and odd perspective for the bystander.

We were sent off in our groups into the wild streets of limerick to find a place we can do our illusion. We found a few spots with good potential but we decided to play around with an area just under a bridge.

We messed around with some ideas but came to the idea where we were going to do a perspective of people getting sucked into a portal in the ground using chalk for the exterior of it and bin bags for the void.

We created a very funny and unique illusion and it was a really fun and hands on project that had the perfect weather for an outside project.

After we finished it we decided to convert our optical illusion into an interactive street art installation. The bridge it was under was known for being a very bad place for suicides in Limerick. We decided to flood the area in positive messages using the chalk and even had people just walking by add to it. It was nice to see such positive messages coming from the general public and it was a great way to end the day.
