Everything has a story

This week we looked into the question that is, 'are designers storytellers?', and the more i thought about it, I could not come to the conclusion if we are or not. With the class kicking off with a few videos from the crazy genius Stefan Sagmeister.

Stefan put it simply as just because you can do something, doesn't mean you are that thing or are a master of that craft. His argument had a liable example like a roller-coaster designer saying they are a storyteller through there product when they are just a rollercoaster designer.

In a way he is right, but at the same time his point that 'just because you can draw or sketch doesn't mean you are an artist' doesn't really sit right with me as i feel like it does in a way make you an artist. You are creating art, you are designing things with artistic features, you are creating, so in my eyes it does make you an artist.

When it comes to a product designer being a story teller, i feel like we aren't really storytellers, but though our products and our designs, we can tell a story to everyone.
